My best friend who is a Navy vet wrote this and encouraged me to share it
As the old veteran of this server, I would like to pay a little tribute to the lives lost on this day 25 years ago today. I am wondering where you were (if you were born yet) and what you were doing on this day in 2001.
For me, I was homeschooling my youngest son, and my older son came home from school early. He was supposed to have a field trip that day, so we asked how it went. He said, "the field trip was canceled because a plane hit the world trade center", so my wife and I flipped on the TV and turned to the news. We were devastated at what we saw.
When I became aware of the situation, both towers had been hit, but not the pentagon yet, nor had the plane crashed in Shanksville PA. My wife and I cried for the people on the planes, and in the buildings, and for the first responders that were doing everything humanly possible to save lives.
Today, 25 years after that tragic day, I realize that many of you were not even born yet, and do not really understand the emotions and grief that comes on a day like 9/11/01, and my fondest wish is that none of you ever have to know what that feels like!
Tell someone that you love them, you never know what tomorrow may bring.
