Fellow Danes,
I won.
Those two words feel heavier than I expected. Not because I doubted you, but because I understand what you have entrusted me with. Denmark is not just a country on a map. It is something we have fought for, bled for, and rebuilt together. And today you handed me the keys to it. I do not take that lightly. Not for a single day.
Thank you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
But today is not only a day of celebration. Today is also a day of farewell.
Halbarad built Denmark. Not just its institutions, not just its policies, but its spirit. When this country was occupied, when it was invaded, when propaganda tried to convince us we were puppets and pawns, it was Halbarad who held the line. His patience, his generosity, and his quiet strength gave Denmark the foundation that allowed us to stand tall enough for you to elect someone like me.
You cannot replace a person like that. You can only be grateful they existed.
Halbarad is leaving Denmark for a new home, and while we wish him nothing but happiness wherever he goes, his departure leaves a mark on this nation that no election result can fill. Denmark will remember him. I will make sure of it.
So here is my promise on this first day as your President: I will honour what he built by refusing to let it crumble. Every citizen he welcomed, every battle he fought, every decision he made with Denmark's best interest at heart, that is the standard I will hold myself to.
Denmark is in good hands. Not because of me, but because of all of us.
For Halbarad. For Denmark. Forward.
