Trakai Castle is an architectural masterpiece located in Lithuania, built in the Gothic style using warm red bricks made from local clay during the 14th and 15th centuries. The castle was designed with a highly clever defense system, utilizing the waters of Lake Galvė as a natural moat to prevent attackers from reaching it. This historic structure is uniquely famous as the only castle built on an island in all of Eastern Europe. It features a main 35-meter-high keep containing the Grand Duke's private apartments and a chapel, along with an internal moat and drawbridge that separated the duke's residence from the outer courtyard, creating a fortress within a fortress. Following the famous Battle of Grunwald in 1410, the castle transitioned from a military stronghold into a luxurious residence for the Grand Dukes of Lithuania. It was later used as a prison for nobles in the 16th century and fell into ruins after suffering destruction in the 17th century, before being fully restored to its former glory in the second half of the 20th century to become a famous historical museum today
