Ethiopia is distinguished by being the historical birthplace of the discovery of the coffee plant and the origin of the global culture of coffee drinking. Coffee is closely tied to an ancient daily social tradition known as the Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony, which serves as a cornerstone for community bonding, visiting, and hospitality. This experience is far from a quick cup of coffee; it requires a slow and elaborate ritual that begins with fresh green coffee beans being roasted on hot embers right in front of the guests until their fragrant aroma fills the air. The beans are then manually ground using a wooden mortar and pestle and boiled inside a traditional, long-necked clay pot called a jebena. The coffee is served to guests in three consecutive rounds, each bearing a specific name in the local language, accompanied by the scent of burning incense and roasted corn, making it a unique cultural and social experience that merges folk art with deep human connection
