Portugal is home to the world's oldest operating bookstore, Livraria Bertrand, located in the Chiado district of Lisbon [Guinness World Records].

Founded in 1732 by Peter Bertrand, the shop was nearly destroyed by the devastating 1755 Lisbon earthquake. It relocated to its current location shortly after and has remained in continuous operation for over 290 years
