Before Dubrovnik on the same place was a city of Ragusa(which is destroyed in 1667) during a very strong and unpredictable earthquake that destroyed almost 80% of city. After that catastrophe there was a question among citizens should they leave the place or start to rebuild the new city. They decided to build a new city which they named Dubrovnik, so under today biggest street in Dubrovnik called Stradun are ruins of another city that was destroyed during 16. century. Also every single person who want to enter in the city need to pay entrance with one stone block. That is how materials for city walls are gathered.
as a big history lover and autist I tried to find out the history of this city and i want to share it with you. Dubrovnik was a first republic in history on this area.. They never enter in the war with anyone but paying a ransom to other so they can buy/sell freely. During otomans tryings to conquare Europe, citizens of Dubrovnik were the first ones who had a free entrance to any turkish harbours and they use that to go there and buy exotic and rare materials which will bring back to city and then keep selling them and keep republic economy.
In Dubrovnik is also a "Peskarija" which is name for a local old harbour that is directed directly to "open" sea.

In Durbovnik you are always welcomed and people will be very friendly with you. As someone who have a roots from that city it will always have a place in my hearth and i hope that alot of people will visit this beautifull pearl of adriatic sea.
Also we croatians are well known for amazing food and great wines so i will also recommended you if you ever visit us to try "Šporki makaruli" (mackerel sprats) which is one of the traditional dishes over here in this area. Mackerel sprats is a pasta that is cooked with ingredients and at the end they put a cinamon on the top of it.

Also we have a routes to our neighbours(Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro). Route time is about 90 mins and you can visit alot of special locations in our area.
The protector of Dubrovnik is Sveti Vlaho(Saint Blasius) and every year in february we have a Feast of Saint Blasius. On that very special day for every single citizen in city is fantastic. We have a lot of food, drinks and also we have a parade with a sacred bones of our Protector. Saint Blasius is protector of the city and also protector of our lungs and throat so every year we have a special "grunting" in which the priest put two candles under your neck and start to pray for your health throught that year.
