After Italy, Who Will Be Next? Serbia's Shadow Over the Mediterranean

To the Esteemed Members of the League of Nations,

I write to you as a young Italian citizen to bring to your attention a tragedy that continues to unfold before the eyes of the international community while the world remains silent. It cannot have escaped your notice that my homeland, Italy, has been utterly devastated over the past months.

I have studied history, and I know that my ancestors committed terrible atrocities in ages past. Yet my generation cannot be condemned to bear the guilt of those who came before us. What is happening today is the return of the same evil that has scarred humanity throughout history, while those who stand for justice fail to rise against those who abuse their power.

I was born and raised in a peaceful village in the region of Naples. My country was already at war, but I was too young to understand its causes. When I was ten years old, our region was invaded by Albanian forces. My family and I were forced to flee our home and seek refuge in Sicily, the last region that remained under Italian control. For many years, I did not know whether they were alive or dead. By what I can only describe as a miracle, I later learned that both of them had survived the war, though fate had scattered us across different corners of the world.

At the age of sixteen, I enlisted in the Italian Army. While I was serving far from home, Albania launched another offensive and invaded Sicily. During the siege, my mother lost her life after refusing to surrender the last of our family's savings during a military roundup.

For years, I believed Albania to be our only enemy. Yet, to my great astonishment, it was Serbia—once their ally—that proved even more dangerous. By formally dissolving their alliance with Albania, in what appeared to be nothing more than a political façade, Serbia swiftly seized both Naples and Sicily without encountering any meaningful resistance.

Honourable Members of the League of Nations of War Era, I sincerely hope that my testimony will awaken your conscience and help you recognize that Serbia's overwhelming dominance has become a threat not only to Italy, but to the peace, balance, and prosperity of the entire Mediterranean.

I do not speak on behalf of the Italian Government, nor do I claim to represent the Italian people. I possess no such authority. I speak only as one ordinary Italian soldier and citizen, forced into exile, stripped of my home, my livelihood, and my future. There are hundreds who share my fate.

May compassion guide your judgment, and may this moment become an opportunity to restore justice, stability, and lasting peace to the Mediterranean.
