Đakovo is fantastic and majestic city in Slavo ija. It has alot of interesting facts and also is epispocal city.
It is situated on a slightly elevated tract of land known as the Đakovo Plain, at an absolute elevation of 100 to 150 meters.
The history of Đakovo begins in the 11th century, though the city and its surrounding area—the Đakovo region—were inhabited as early as the Neolithic period, around 5500 BC. Not far from present-day Đakovo, at the site of Štrbinci, lay the Roman settlement of Certissia. While the town appears in medieval written records only from the century; thus, the town is approximately 1,240 years old and was originally situated around the current Church of All Saints.
This city is known to be the center of the bishropic from the old past and it stay today as one of the most sacred towns in our majestic country.
The construction of the cathedral (1866–1882) stands as the most significant event in the cultural history of Đakovo and one of the most important Croatian architectural undertakings of its time. Contemporaries of its construction and completion dubbed it a "marvel of art"; when a priest—encountering a young woman from the Đakovo area inside the newly consecrated cathedral—asked her what she thought of its appearance, she replied: "How beautiful heaven must be, if it is already like this here!" Bishop Strossmayer commissioned the cathedral's designs from the Viennese architect Karl Rösner, signing the construction contract with him in Đakovo on April 17, 1866. However, Rösner died in 1869, and the project was taken over by architect Friedrich Schmidt—considered by many the most renowned Gothic-style architect of the 19th century. Strossmayer himself acknowledged that "much credit is due to him for the way Gothic and Romanesque styles blend so wonderfully, both in the church's interior and exterior." The church was roofed with tiles in May 1871. Its final completion took place eleven years later, and it was consecrated on October 1, 1882.

The patron saint of the city of Đakovo is Saint Elijah.
In Slavic folk tradition, Saint Elijah assumed the role of the ancient Slavic god Perun, who commanded lightning and thunder. As Đakovo and the surrounding Slavonia region are agricultural areas, the faithful have for centuries turned to Saint Elijah to protect their crops from storms, hail, and drought, thereby cementing his status as a patron saint.

This is Croatia's largest traditional festival, the Đakovo Embroidery Festival (Đakovački vezovi). It is an international event featuring around seventy folklore groups from all over the world, with approximately four thousand performers. Each group wears a different folk costume, and each costume features a unique embroidery pattern. Each costume represent own traditional vest from all parts of Croatia.
Stitch by stitch, threaded with gold, the Đakovački vezovi festival has woven a history spanning more than half a century—an event that gathers tens of thousands of participants and visitors every summer, all united by their love for tradition, folklore, history, natural beauty, gastronomy, and music. During these days, the atmosphere in this eastern Croatian town is especially joyful. Familiar Slavonian songs echo throughout the city, local women in traditional attire are admired, gold coins glint in the light, and the heart of the town beats as one.

The Đakovo State Stud Farm was founded as early as 1506, making it one of the oldest stud farms in Europe and testifying to the region's long tradition of horse breeding. Breeding of the Lipizzaner breed at the stud farm began in the early 19th century.

The Lipizzaner is a member of a world-famous horse breed. The breed originated in 1580 in Lipica, in the then Habsburg Monarchy (present-day Slovenia).
The Lipizzaner’s body shape forms a horizontal rectangle; the head is distinctly refined, featuring a convex profile and a beautifully arched, high-set neck. The back is long, very broad, and strong, with a short, wide coupling. The croup is muscular, rounded, and long, with a high-set tail. The horse possesses a fairly broad, deep chest and well-rounded ribs. A high-stepping gait is facilitated by a long shoulder and a short forearm—a characteristic trait of Spanish horses. The legs are strong and well-boned, with highly developed, broad joints and sturdy tendons and hooves. Both the mane and tail are characterized by a strong, thick texture.

Slavonian kulen and cured meat products: Đakovo is known as the city of kulen. Alongside the "king of the table"—kulen—there are also homemade ham, sausage, bacon, and fresh pork cracklings.

Fish paprikash
Essential traditional dishes featuring red paprika include čobanac—made from a variety of meats (game, beef, pork)—and fiš, a river fish stew that is a Friday favorite.
