This statement reflects a dangerous mindset : treating Africa as if it were an open space for whoever has the greater capacity to expand

لكن إفريقيا ليست خريطةً فارغة، وليست جائزةً تنتظر من يمد نفوذه إليها

But Africa is not an empty map, nor is it a prize waiting for whoever extends their influence over it

African states may differ in their interests and positions, and their governments may disagree, but there is a principle greater than those differences: Africa belongs to no single power

Africa is not a prize for whoever expands their influence the furthest, nor is it a space waiting to be redrawn according to the interests of others

وإذا كان التوسع يمكن أن يجمع القوى حول مصالحها ، فإن السيادة يمكن أن تجمع الشعوب حول قارة واحدة

If expansion can bring powers together around their interests, sovereignty can bring peoples together around one continent.
