Albania–Greece Tensions in the Aegean rising

KayyApril 10, 2026news

Albania and Greece had a stable relationships shaped by diplomatic relationships. But sources say they both broke promises, wich turned to war.

Opening Strikes

At midday, Albanian forces opened fire near Greece borders in the Aegean islands. Albanian naval units, supported by fast attack craft and transport vessels, moved into contested waters under heavy electronic jamming. Simultaneously, special forces units attempted amphibious landings on smaller Greek islands near the northern Aegean.

Greek radar installations detected the incursion within minutes. Fighter jets scrambled from mainland bases, while naval patrols have been seen moving rapidly to intercept. Explosions were reported near coastal defense positions as Albanian forces attempted to establish footholds.

Greeks counterattack

The Greek military responded with overwhelming force. Warships of the Hellenic Navy engaged Albanian vessels, resulting in multiple reported sinkings. Greek air superiority quickly became clear, as why they are stronger in the air. With fighter aircraft striking landing zones and supply ships.

On the ground, officials say they have been pushing Albanian forces out of the city, and have now been reported taking fights on sea and mostly on the outskirts of the cities.

Escalation at Sea and Air

Local videos of civilians trapped show the chaos in the air, multiple jets taken down, and countless dogfights. While anti-air missiles engaged in combat against Albanian fighter jets, there have been reportedly say it shot down at least 6 jets.

Albania tried reinforcing on sea and has claimed they are stronger, claiming they have full control of the sea near the Aegean border.

Situation on the Ground

Civilians on several Greek islands have been evacuated amid ongoing shelling and air activity. Infrastructure damage has been reported, including ports and communication systems. Both sides are taking losses, how many is unclear.

Albanian forces have been seen getting more and more ground as Greek soldiers fall back, until now that is all we know.

What now

The situation is still developing, we´ll update as soon as we can when we have more. Until now, civilians should minimize travels, air and public transport have been closed.
