A Day Off — by JohnRato

There's a certain kind of Saturday that sneaks up on you — the kind where you end up in someone's garage at two in the afternoon with a cold beer and no particular plan. That's exactly how it started with https://app.warera.io/user/6a08b5e2587cfbc416b85d92. Guitar came out, beers came out, and any sense of urgency quietly excused itself and left. Nobody was complaining.

At some point we wandered out into the backyard — because that's what you do when the afternoon starts getting comfortable. https://app.warera.io/user/6a08b5e2587cfbc416b85d92 has chickens. He also has a vegetable garden. I'm not sure I knew either of these things before Saturday, but there we were, two grown men inspecting tomato plants and debating the general attitude of his hens with the kind of seriousness that only a couple of beers can produce.

It was somewhere around the third beer that someone — and I'm not saying who — suggested we needed more supplies. Meat, specifically. And more beer, obviously. So we did what any reasonable person would do: we drove to the supermarket, walked the aisles with the focused energy of people who are slightly more enthusiastic than the situation required, and came back victorious.

The rest of the afternoon belonged to my place. Pool, sunshine, the kind of heat that makes jumping into cold water feel like the best decision you've ever made. We grilled the meat. It was good — properly good, the kind you only get when there's no rush and someone's actually paying attention to the coals. We ate by the pool, and then we just... sat there. Talking about nothing in particular, in no particular hurry.

Eventually https://app.warera.io/user/6a08b5e2587cfbc416b85d92 headed home. The day didn't end with anything dramatic — no grand conclusion, no highlight reel moment. Just two friends, a grill, a pool, and a Saturday well spent.

Sometimes that's exactly enough.
