Good day, good day, today we play

No, don't trouble yourself, I have brought everything. The table, the cloth, the cards. One motion, you see, and up goes the little table, that one learns in the first year of apprenticeship. For the question from the other day is still open, and a proper salesman leaves nothing undone: what does one do with all these cards? I'll tell you plainly, sir. One builds a state from them. And then one topples the other fellow's.

Look here. Both sides set up a whole country. At the very top sits the president, and with him all stands or falls, for once he is finished, the game is over. Before him up to four ministers, before them the economy, at the very front the army, and off to the side the congress sits in session. This congress is the true treasure chest, for its representatives, with a little luck, throw off hard coin each round, red for the soldiers, green for the economy. Whom you seat in the congress decides what your people may do at all. Just as in real life, is it not? Forgive me. That is said too easily at every door.

But no one reaches the president by the straight road. Only the frontmost row may be attacked: first the front, then the economy, then the government, and last of all the president. The army shields the economy, and the economy feeds the army, quite literally, for it casts ammunition each round, and every shot draws upon it. A marksman with an empty pouch reaches for the knife and merely scratches. A pure army starves, a pure economy brings no one down. Every game lives on that dilemma.

From the fourth round the government has its say, each office with its own trick. The defense minister makes your next stroke sure or heavy, the foreign minister eats away the enemy's armor, the vice heals and shields, and the president fetches even the fallen back into the deck. What is done to those pictured, you ask? Nothing, that is warranted. The gentlefolk on the cards feel at most a mild echo, and only upon critical hits - maybe a bloody nose at most.

A game is fought out in ten, fifteen minutes. Your deck, that is five-and-twenty real people together with a government: your allies, your adversaries, and with a little luck the living president of your own country. And do not fret about an opponent. One always turns up. One has turned up every single time.

There, I fold the little table away again. You cannot play yet, the trial clientele has the tables to itself, but in a few days, my good sir, in a few days. And that you stay with me, the second voucher of the House:

[CARDERA-6XMN-DN59-CALW].

On my next visit we come to collecting, to cards no one can destroy, and to the question of why in this House no cash ever changes hands. Good day to you! I'll find my own way out, I know the way. Indeen... I do.
