In the few days I’ve been here, I’ve reached the same conclusion seen in Colombian and Latin politics: the inability to recognize mistakes.
An attack on Ecuador led us to the imminent loss of all our territory. The government was not aware of an alliance between Venezuela and Ecuador, even though the feed documented it minutes before the Colombian attack began. Misinformation. And although our president stated that he would take action and correct this situation, in the following days sentimentality played a bad role among several government members in the global chat.
People say we had the biggest war against Venezuela... while some congressmen and ministers were and still are muted. At such an important moment where, as I’ve noticed, it is crucial to create alliances and communicate defenses/attacks, our most direct channels couldn’t write. Enemy strategy or sentimentality turned into insults?
Personally, I never saw any betrayal from Colombia towards Venezuela, except for the possibility of some agreement I’m unaware of. But what is the perspective of a new player?: misinformation, insults from both sides, sentimentality over strategy, mutual xenophobia. A perspective that should matter to both countries, since besides me, there are more new players.
Our president advocated for healthy communication, but even today, several members of the government claim to be proud of the sanction that muted them. My view is that the president has the opportunity to choose a more strategic and less sentimental government, since we already saw what happened.
What everyone says is that this will only be a phase; that’s how the game works, a phase without territory. I truly hope it’s not just false hope, since new players are still learning.
P.S.: Speaking of learning, I’m still struggling with companies and the economy despite watching and reading several tutorials. 😪
