The recent map update introduced a crucial strategic layer to War Era: physical location finally dictates action. Crossing regions now burns stamina and oil, ensuring that armies can no longer deploy instantaneously across continents without paying a price.
However, paying oil to cover travel only addresses the logistical cost—not the physiological reality of warfare. Currently, a player can travel 19 regions across the globe using oil and immediately land maximum-damage critical hits the exact second they arrive. This creates an environment where wealthy offensive forces can blitz local garrisons without allowing defenders any window to react.
Introducing a Travel Fatigue mechanic bridges this gap naturally without restricting player movement.
1. Core Mechanic: The "Fatigued" Debuff
Whenever a player moves across a significant distance in a single push, their combat readiness should temporarily dip:
Trigger Threshold: Moving 5 or more regions consecutively triggers the Fatigued status upon arrival.
Duration: A brief recovery timer scales with the distance traveled (e.g., 2 minutes for 5 regions, scaling up to a maximum cap of 5–8 minutes for maximum-range 19-region trips).
Stat Impact: While Fatigued, a soldier incurs minor tactical penalties:
-15% Critical Strike Chance
-10% Precision / Accuracy
Base damage and health remain completely unaffected to ensure players can still defend themselves if ambushed.
2. Counterplay & Tactical Depth
Fatigue should reward strategic coordination rather than frustrate casual travel:
Local Defender Advantage: Garrisons and local citizens who are already standing in the contested region fight at 100% peak efficiency. This forces invaders to stage troops in advance rather than executing instant multi-continental drops.
Consumable Utility (The Rest Stop): Players who need to clear Fatigue immediately can consume specific food/beverage resources (such as Cooked Fish, Steak, or specialized energy items) or simply wait out the timer at a nearby border outpost.
3. Why War Era Needs This
Stops "Oil-Blitzing": High oil reserves will still guarantee global reach, but raw wealth alone will no longer guarantee an instant, uncontested wipe of local defenders.
Elevates Reconnaissance & Intelligence: Gathering Intel on enemy troops moving toward borders becomes meaningful, as defending nations gain a crucial 5-to-10-minute staging window.
Synergy with Map Features: Integrates seamlessly with the stamina and distance-based mechanics already implemented in the latest version.
Distance should carry physical weight, not just a wallet check. Adding travel fatigue makes battlefield positioning, timing, and local garrisons genuinely matter.
