The Inquisition's takeover and subsequent rule were marked by absolute control over the Vatican.

The Inquisition's goal was to prevent the election of a new Pope until they had found a worthy successor and to "purify" the Holy See.

Although they achieved these objectives during this era, https://app.warera.io/user/684ffb8c62731210c8cee380 established a secret underground resistance known as the
Vatican Catacombs.

Composed of supporters from around the world, the organization conspired to restore the Pope to the throne.

FALL OF THE INQUISITION

After nearly two months in power, the Inquisition fell during a battle against the Papal forces at the end of March 2026.

CRUSADING ERA

Date: April 2026

This era was marked by a series of momentous events, beginning with the creation of the Holy League a defensive alliance led by the Papacy.

The alliance soon launched a crusade to liberate a member of the Holy League https://app.warera.io/country/6813b6d546e731854c7ac842.

However, after https://app.warera.io/country/683ddd2c24b5a2e114af1600 attacked https://app.warera.io/country/6813b6d546e731854c7ac842, the campaign evolved into a crusade for https://app.warera.io/region/683ddd3d36dbc90b7804749d.

Against overwhelming odds, the Holy League forces managed to capture the Holy City, holding it for a full day despite being vastly outnumbered.

A second crusade was called to protect https://app.warera.io/country/6813b6d446e731854c7ac7a6 from an attack from https://app.warera.io/country/6813b6d446e731854c7ac79a and for the French poor conduct during that period.

These events also triggered the collapse of relations with https://app.warera.io/country/6813b6d446e731854c7ac7a2, the death of Crowley I, and the election of a second Pope within a single month: Tassilo I.

The collapse of Vatican–Italian relations quickly escalated into war after Italian spies were discovered operating within the https://app.warera.io/country/69614d0e5d798a861630c58e, in violation of the non-aggression pact that had been signed.

The Vatican's initial offensive marked the beginning of a conflict that would last for three months, claiming the lives of countless soldiers.

The war also directly led to the Vatican joining https://app.warera.io/alliance/6a2b13879c8c99640b9c4963, fundamentally reshaping its diplomatic and military alliances.

This brought an end to the most brutal conflict the Italian Peninsula had witnessed in months.

With the war finally over, a new era of peace is ahead of us.
