Day 1 of cute animals and their IUCN status. QUOKKA!

TonaLegonyJuly 9, 2026entertainment

Hello. I am TonaLegony. You may know me as "Finn the Human", "The great ragebaiter of Germany" or "The LorikGate slayer".

Anyways, I am starting this campaign of daily publishes where I show you one animal and its "International Union for Conservation of Nature" (IUCN) state.

My goal is to make the community more aware of the amazing span of species we may even never knew anything about that is RIGHT NOW at risk of extinction, or in danger.

I am not doing this shit for tips, in fact, I ask you not to tip: a like and subscribe is everything the article needs if you want to contribute to its visibility.

Thank you for your attention.

Let's start.

THE QUOKKA

A small marsupial belonging to the same family as kangaroos (yes, it’s Australian) and about the size of a cat. It is social with humans and not at all aggressive. Don't let that smile fool you though, this little psychopath has a defense mechanism against predators that is nothing short of horrifying: when pursued, the mother ejects her puppy from the pouch. Left behind, in a panic, the baby starts squeaking, drawing the predator's attention and allowing the mother to escape safely. Terrible, but effective.

Isn't that smile cute?

Currently, the Quokka is classified as VULNERABLE on the IUCN Red List.
