Declaration of Independence

When we departed from Belgrade, our backpacks were filled with tactical gear and our heads were filled with cold orders to "pacify" the local population. Serbia viewed Mali as a mere chess piece on a geopolitical board, and we were the heavy hand sent to move it. We were prepared for a desert insurgency; instead, we found a family.

The moment we arrived in Bamako, our worldview shattered. We expected hostility, but we found a feast. We expected rebellion, but we found genuine friendship. The locals didn't greet our units with barricades; they met us with open arms and plates of incredible food that put our rations to shame. Most importantly, in a gesture that bridged the cultural divide instantly, they handed us PlayStation 5s.

It turns out, it is remarkably difficult to maintain an iron-fisted occupation when you are busy in a high-stakes NBA 2K tournament or trying to survive a five-round war in UFC with the very people you were supposed to be "oppressing." You can't subjugate a neighbor who just hit a step-back three over you or taught you how to time a perfect counter-hook in the Octagon.

The kindness and hospitality of the Malian people have transformed us from an occupying force into a national guard. We have realized that our true allegiance is not to a distant government in Serbia, but to the community that gave us a home and a controller when we were sent to take theirs.

Therefore, we officially declare the Republic of Mali independent from Serbia. To our former leaders in Belgrade: We bear no ill will, but our mission has changed. We have traded our rifles for DualSense controllers and our mandates for local recipes. We ask you to recognize our sovereignty and let us be free to build a future based on gaming, grace, and independence. The "oppressors" have gone offline; the citizens of Mali are now loading into a new era.
