OFFICIAL DECLARATION OF WAR AGAINST MALI
Citizens of Guinea-Bissau,
The hour has come once more.
In the aftermath of our recent campaign, our enemies believed they had witnessed a retreat. They believed they had seen weakness. They believed the spirit of Guinea-Bissau had been broken.
They mistook patience for defeat.
Today, they learn the truth.
After careful consideration and with absolute confidence in the strength of our nation, I hereby declare a state of war against Mali.
This decision has not been made lightly. It has been made decisively.
The Republic of Guinea-Bissau does not seek permission to shape the future.
We intend to shape it ourselves.
To our soldiers, sharpen your bayonets and ready your engines.
To our workers, let the factories thunder through the night.
To our citizens, stand united behind the banner of the republic.
A great nation is not measured by the size of its territory, but by the courage of its people. And today, the courage of Guinea-Bissau shall be tested once again.
To the rulers of Mali, I offer this final courtesy:
You may write speeches.
You may issue statements.
You may even celebrate.
But while you are speaking, we are moving.
While you are planning, we are advancing.
And while you are sleeping, we are dreaming of victory.
The future belongs to those bold enough to seize it.
