Economic Tax Treaty between the Netherlands and Iraq

Today, the Kingdom of the Netherlands announces a new formal tax agreement with Iraq concerning Dutch limestone companies operating within Iraqi core territory.

Several weeks ago, the Netherlands and Iraq reached an arrangement for Dutch steel production in Iraqi core regions. After Iraq’s economic specialization shifted from steel to limestone, both sides continued their cooperation informally. That cooperation has now been formalized into a new agreement specifically for limestone companies.

Under this arrangement, Dutch limestone activity in Iraqi core regions will fall under a structured tax return mechanism between Iraq and the Netherlands. The mechanism scales with the level of Dutch economic activity, making the agreement more valuable as Dutch production in Iraq grows.

The agreement will remain in effect until at least 1 July.

For Dutch business owners, the message is clear: limestone companies that want to contribute to this arrangement should operate in Iraqi core regions. Activity outside recognized Iraqi core territory does not fall under the intended structure of this agreement.

This agreement strengthens the economic cooperation between the Netherlands and Iraq and gives Dutch limestone producers a clear strategic direction for the coming weeks.

Through practical diplomacy and targeted economic policy, the Netherlands continues to build stronger fiscal returns for our country.
