English argumentative essay Holes by Louis Sachar

Justice

The word of Justice is not always the wisdom of the court. A prime example is the novel Holes by Louis Sachar, where Stanley Yelnats is given the justice and not the wisdom of those in charge. Justice prevails in this novel because of the perseverance of Stanley Yelnats and Zero, the unity Stanley and Zero show through their friendship, and the uncovering of the secrets of Camp Greenlake.

First of all Justice Prevails because of the breaking of the curse. Stanley and his family have had to endure bad luck all their lives but that curse is broken once Stanley is proven innocent and his great great grandfather's debt is paid. The bad luck the family Yelnats had to endure was unjust since they had no affiliation with the mistakes their great great grandfather has made and the consequences inflicted because of those mistakes.

The unity Stanley and Zero show through their friendship.
Stanley sticks with Zero when Zero attempts the escape.
Because Stanley stayed with Zero he was able to care for him and bring him back to the camp. If Stanley had not done this Zero would have died and so he would miss out on the freedom that Stanley’s lawyer gives him.

The uncovering of the secrets of Camp Greenlake.
The uncovering of the story of Sam the onion seller

Sam was chased and murdered by a mob of racist angry folk from the town of Greenlake, the leader of the mob was Charles Walker (aka Trout Walker). The warden (Louise Walker) is a descendant of Charles and she is trying to find the treasure that contains proof of the injustices done by the wardens family, hidden by Katherine Barlow, the warden fails to do so and instead Stanley and Zero find the treasure which contains proof of the wardens family injustices. The uncovering of this treasure and the truth finally shows the past horrors, which eventually lead to the wardens downfall for abuse of power.

This novel has a story of two brave boys that, because of their persistence, get freed from their unfair punishment and also bring justice to past injustices which have never been brought to light.
