Gooood daaaay fellow soldiers!
With black clouds of war always on top of pur heads, I can't do anything but put on my player...
“War Pigs” – Black Sabbath
Once again an opening track, this time of the second studio album for Ozzy&Co. "Paranoid", where the Sabbaths didn't yet need an airplane for the cocaine supply.
Now, I'm sure the vast majority of you already knows this super hot tune, but maybe not everybody knows more than the melody and the groove.
A dark, powerful anti-war anthem, “War Pigs” blends heavy riffs with biting political commentary.
The song paints a grim, somehow even populist, picture of generals and politicians orchestrating destruction from afar.
You should also know that, originally titled “Walpurgis”, the track was inspired by occult imagery before the band shifted its focus toward the horrors of war.
The change was partly influenced by their record label, which feared backlash over satanic references.
Geezer Butler, the band’s bassist and primary lyricist, drew heavily from the Vietnam War and the growing disillusionment of the late 1960s.
The lyrics sharply criticize those in power, portraying them as “witches” responsible for mass suffering.
Anyway, the occult imagery still remains, in the final, epic words:
Begging mercy for their sins
Satan laughing, spreads his wings
Once again, I advice you, to listen to the whole goddamn album!
HAve a great sunday, lads, and see you soon!
