The new GIF update is certainly… an experience.

Apparently, normal chat wasn’t enough, so now we can fill it with an unlimited stream of animated images until the whole thing starts fighting for its life.
GIFs themselves aren’t the problem. They’re fun, and they can add some personality to conversations. The brilliant part is giving players the ability to spam them over and over with apparently no meaningful limit, while every GIF has to load and render for everyone in the chat.
The result? More spam, more visual clutter, and, most importantly, more lag.
You can have a perfectly normal conversation, then someone discovers the GIF button and suddenly the chat turns into a slideshow. Send another. And another. And another. Because why stop at one when apparently the server has nothing better to do?
The update even proudly mentions that “the chat no longer jumps while a GIF loads.”
Great.
Now it can remain perfectly stable while being buried under 47 GIFs and making everyone’s device wonder what it did to deserve this.
A simple cooldown or rate limit would go a long way. Limit how many GIFs a player can send within a certain period, restrict consecutive GIF messages, and give chat moderators some control over it.
GIFs are a nice addition.
Unlimited GIF spam that causes lag isn’t.
Please give the GIF button a brake pedal before the chat becomes a benchmark test for everyone’s CPU.
