How I met her (Part 12)

The next few days were surprisingly quiet.

Almost too quiet.

My girlfriend was acting normal around me again. She wasn't questioning me about her sister anymore, but I could tell she hadn't completely forgotten what happened.

Her sister, on the other hand, had started texting me more often.

Nothing obvious. Just small things.

A random message about university, a joke, or some completely unnecessary question she could have easily asked someone else.

I knew what she was doing.

She wanted a reason to talk to me without making it obvious that she wanted to talk to me.

And I wasn't complaining.

Then one afternoon, my girlfriend invited both of us to get coffee.

For the first few minutes, everything was normal. We talked about university, complained about classes, and laughed about something stupid that had happened that morning.

Then her sister suddenly turned to me.

“You're free tomorrow, right?”

I looked at her. “Why?”

“I need to go somewhere, and I don't want to go alone.”

My girlfriend looked at her. “Then ask one of your friends.”

Her sister shrugged. “I could, but I'd rather go with him.”

I almost laughed.

That was getting a little too obvious.

My girlfriend noticed it too.

She looked at me, then at her sister. “Where are you going?”

“Just somewhere I need to pick something up.”

“And why does he have to come?”

Her sister hesitated for a second before answering, “Because I like having him around.”

That shut my girlfriend up for a moment.

I could practically see the thought forming in her head.

She didn't accuse her sister of anything. She didn't even argue.

She just looked at me.

“So, are you going?”

I could have said no.

That probably would have been the smarter choice.

But I wasn't exactly interested in making the smart choice.

“Sure.”

Her sister smiled.

My girlfriend didn't.

The rest of the coffee felt slightly different after that.

Her sister kept talking to me like nothing had happened, while my girlfriend became noticeably quieter.

Nothing dramatic happened.

No accusations.

No argument.

Just small things.

The way my girlfriend kept looking at us whenever we talked. The way her sister seemed to enjoy getting my attention. The way neither of them seemed willing to back down.

When we finally left, my girlfriend walked beside me in silence.

After a while, she said, “She really likes having you around.”

I shrugged. “She's my friend.”

“I know.”

She stayed quiet for another few seconds.

“I'm just saying.”

I smiled. “You're jealous?”

She immediately looked at me. “I'm not jealous.”

“Sure.”

She rolled her eyes, but I could see the smile she was trying to hide.

Still, something had definitely changed.

Before, my girlfriend was worried about losing me.

Now she was starting to worry about losing me specifically to her sister.

And her sister?

She didn't seem very interested in hiding how much she wanted my attention anymore.

For the first time, I wasn't sure I was the one controlling the situation.

Maybe they were starting to compete.

And honestly, I wanted to see where that went.
