Friday evening, my girlfriend's family had dinner, so I went over to their house.
Girlfriend stayed close to me the entire time.
Normally, I would've thought nothing of it. This time, I knew exactly why.
Her sister noticed too.
At dinner, my girlfriend kept talking to me, serving me food, and making sure I was sitting beside her. Her sister didn't say much, but every time my girlfriend pulled my attention toward her, she found a way to get it back.
It was subtle enough that nobody else would've noticed.
I did.
Then my girlfriend's mother asked me about university.
Before I could answer, her sister jumped in and started telling a story about something I'd done there.
My girlfriend immediately corrected her.
“You weren't even there.”
“I heard about it.”
“You heard about it from him?”
Her sister smiled. “Maybe.”
I nearly laughed.
They were arguing over information about me now.
After dinner, everyone moved into the living room.
My girlfriend sat beside me again.
A few minutes later, her sister came over and sat on my other side.
I looked from one sister to the other.
This was getting ridiculous.
Then my girlfriend's phone rang.
She got up to answer it, leaving me alone with her sister.
The moment she was out of earshot, her sister leaned closer and quietly said, “You know she's doing this on purpose, right?”
I smiled. “So are you.”
She laughed.
Before she could say anything else, my girlfriend came back.
She looked at the empty space beside me, then at her sister.
“Can you come help me for a second?”
Her sister stood up.
They walked into the kitchen together.
I couldn't hear everything, but I heard enough.
“Why do you keep sitting next to him?”
“Why do you care?”
“Because he's my boyfriend.”
There was a pause.
Then her sister said something too quietly for me to catch.
My girlfriend came back alone.
She looked annoyed.
A few minutes later, her sister returned too, but neither of them said anything.
I thought that was the end of it.
Then, while everyone was getting ready to leave, my girlfriend's sister quietly slipped her phone into my hand.
I looked at the screen.
A message was already open.
Meet me tomorrow. Alone. I need to tell you something.
I looked up at her.
She was already walking away.
For the first time, I had a feeling this wasn't going to be another little jealousy game.
She actually had something to tell me.
And I really wanted to know what it was.the first one
