عندما يفقد الإعلام استقلاليته

When the Media Loses Its Independence

إلى من يقدم نفسه على أنه صحفي حر

To the person who presents himself as a free journalist

الصحافة ليست درعًا يحتمي خلفه أصحاب الأجندات، وليست منصة تمنح لطرف واحد كل المساحة ثم تُسمى حيادًا

Journalism is not a shield behind which those with agendas can hide, nor is it a platform that gives one side all the space and then calls it neutrality

عندما تتكرر المقابلات مع الجهات نفسها، وتُمنح الرواية نفسها الأولوية، ويغيب التوازن مرة بعد أخرى، فمن حق الجمهور أن يتساءل عن حقيقة هذا الدور الإعلامي

When interviews with the same parties are repeatedly conducted, when the same narrative is consistently given priority, and when balance disappears time and again, the public has every right to question the true nature of this media role

لا أحد يملك حصانة من النقد لمجرد أنه يرفع شعار الصحافة الحرة

No one is immune from criticism simply because they raise the banner of free journalism

فالصحفي يُحاسب على محتواه، وعلى اختياراته، وعلى مدى التزامه بالحياد، لا على الألقاب التي يضعها أمام اسمه

A journalist is held accountable for his content, his choices, and his commitment to neutrality—not for the titles he places before his name

إذا كان الهدف نقل الحقيقة، فلتُعرض جميع الحقائق. وإذا كان الهدف خدمة رواية معينة، فليكن ذلك واضحًا للجميع بدل تقديمه على أنه عمل صحفي مستقل

If the goal is to convey the truth, then all facts should be presented. And if the goal is to serve a particular narrative, then that should be clear to everyone instead of presenting it as independent journalism

أما صحفي المناسبات مروان، فيلاحق العناوين التي تخدم رواية معينة

As for the occasional journalist Marwan, he pursues headlines that serve a particular narrative

مرة يخرج ليحدثنا عن حسن نوايا هذه الدولة

One time, he comes out to tell us about the good intentions of this state

ومرة يشرح لنا لماذا تلك الدولة لم تخطئ

Another time, he explains why that state did nothing wrong

ومرة يقدم طرفًا على أنه الضحية الدائمة

And another time, he presents one side as the perpetual victim.

وفي النهاية يطلب منا أن نصدق أن كل ذلك مجرد "حياد"

And in the end, he asks us to believe that all of this is simply “neutrality”

المصداقية لا تُصنع بالضجيج ولا تُشترى بالعناوين ولا تُكتسب بتكرار كلمة "صحفي حر"

Credibility is not created through noise, nor bought with headlines, nor earned by repeatedly using the words “free journalist.”

المصداقية تُبنى عندما يثق الناس أن هدفك كشف الحقيقة، لا اختيار أي جزء منها يناسب الرواية التي تريد إيصالها

Credibility is built when people trust that your goal is to uncover the truth, not to select whichever part of it suits the narrative you want to deliver

أما الذين يوافقون على إجراء المقابلات معه، فهم أيضًا يستحقون الشكر

As for those who agree to be interviewed by him, they also deserve our thanks

فليس من السهل العثور على منصة تمنحك الراحة والوقت والابتسامة والعنوان المناسب والإجابة دفعة واحدة

It is not easy to find a platform that provides you with comfort, time, a smile, the right headline, and the answer all at once

وطريف أن جميع الأطراف والمسؤولين يصفقون في نهاية المقابلة كأنهم حضروا حفلة تكريم لا لقاءً صحفيًا.

And amusingly, all the parties and officials applaud at the end of the interview as if they had attended an award ceremony rather than a journalistic interview

أما إذا تعلق الأمر بعرض الرواية الجزائرية، فيبدو أن شبكة الإنترنت تتعرض لانقطاع مفاجئ عند مروان

But when it comes to presenting the Algerian narrative, it seems that the internet suddenly suffers an unexpected outage whenever Marwan is involved

أما إذا أردت معرفة موقف الجزائر، فعليك البحث في مكان آخر

And if you want to know Algeria’s position, you will have to look somewhere else

لأن مهمة الصحفي هي سماع جميع الأطراف، أما مهمة مروان، فيبدو أنها البحث عن الطرف الذي يختلف مع الجزائر ومنحه ميكروفونًا جديدًا

Because a journalist’s job is to hear all sides, while Marwan’s task, apparently, is to find the side that disagrees with Algeria and give it a new microphone

وفي النهاية يخرج علينا بعنوان كبير

And in the end, he comes out with a big headline

"صحافة حرة".

"Free Journalism."

حرة من ماذا؟

Free from what?

من الحياد على الأغلب.

Neutrality, most likely.
