Disclaimer: This guide is a community-driven compilation of information gathered from multiple sources across WarEra, including player discussions, Discord conversations, build-testing results, simulator analysis, end-game writeups, and various guides published by experienced players.
The goal is not to present a single player's opinion, but rather to combine the collective knowledge and experiences of many different players into one practical resource.
This guide aims to answer the most common questions about Sustainable War Mode while keeping the information easy to understand, easy to follow, and accessible to both new and experienced players.

War Mode is when you reset skill points away from economic skills and into combat skills.
You gain:
More damage
Better battle performance
Better loot opportunities
You lose:
Some economic growth
Some company capacity
The goal is NOT maximum damage.
The goal is to create a build that can fight continuously without eventually forcing you back into Eco mode.
A sustainable war build:
✅ Keeps companies producing income and resources
✅ Earns enough loot, rewards, contracts and bounties to offset costs
✅ Stays combat effective for months
✅ Doesn't bankrupt you
✅ Allows you to keep contributing to wars consistently
A player doing 1-2M damage every day for 2 months is far more valuable than someone doing 4M damage for a week before going broke and returning to eco.
Spend less than you earn.
Your war expenses should be covered by a combination of:
Company income
Missions
Cases
Scrap
Battle loot
Bounties
Mercenary contracts
If your expenses consistently exceed your income, eventually you'll be forced back into Eco.
Sustainable War Mode is not about charging headfirst into everything.
It's about hitting hard, spending smart, and staying financially alive after the war.
Before committing heavily to war, aim for:
5-6 Companies
AE6 minimum
300-500 BTC reserve
Food stockpile
Ammo stockpile
Your companies are not separate from your war build.
They ARE your war build.
The stronger your economy is, the easier war becomes.
A useful rule of thumb:
Each company level generates roughly 3 BTC/day
A Level 5 company ≈ 15 BTC/day
A Level 6 company ≈ 18 BTC/day
Higher AE levels are expensive, but testing shows each level can provide roughly 8-10% more value over time.
Build your economy first. The damage comes later.

One of the biggest fears eco players have is losing company progression.
You won't.
When you remove company skill points:
✅ Companies are NOT deleted
✅ Company levels remain
✅ AE levels remain
✅ All upgrades remain
✅ All investment remains
The company simply becomes dormant if you no longer have enough company capacity allocated.
When you add company skill points again:
✅ It becomes active again
✅ Production resumes normally
✅ Nothing has been lost
Think of it as putting a factory to sleep, not demolishing it.
You can move between:
Eco Build → War Build → Eco Build
without losing the underlying company progression.
Your companies are an asset, not a consumable.
The overwhelming consensus is:
Commit to Purple.
For most players:
Purple Sniper
Purple Helmet
Purple Body Armour
Purple Pants
Purple Gloves
Purple Boots
Purple provides the best balance of:
✅ Damage
✅ Cost
✅ Survivability
✅ Sustainability
The jump from Blue → Purple is substantial.
The jump from Purple → expensive min-max gear usually isn't.
One of the biggest mistakes newer players make:
"I need max-stat gear."
No, you don't.
Buy:
✅ Mid-roll Purple Gear
Avoid:
❌ Perfect Rolls
❌ Max-stat Gear
❌ Collector-Priced Items
The performance gain is usually tiny compared to the price increase.
A sustainable fighter using affordable purple gear will outperform a bankrupt min-maxer every time.
Remember:
The goal is not to own the best gear.
The goal is to own gear you can afford to replace.
If money is tight, the safest pieces to downgrade are:
Blue Body Armour
Blue Pants
Everything else should ideally remain Purple.
This should be viewed as a temporary compromise, not the end goal.
If you're gradually improving your build:
Possibly the best single upgrade available.
Many high-level players run:
Mostly Purple Gear + Gold Boots
for a significant damage boost.
Excellent damage-per-cost upgrade.
One of the best places to spend extra budget.
Use tanks for:
Major wars
High-value fights
Important pushes
Many players earn tanks naturally through loot, so don't feel pressured to buy large amounts immediately.

✅ Steak
Steak is generally considered the sustainable daily food.
✅ Fish
Use Fish when:
Bonuses are high
Contract payouts are good
The battle really matters
At very high levels many players simply use Fish all the time because their economy and loot generation support it.
✅ Green Ammo
Green ammo provides the best long-term sustainability while keeping operational costs low.
Use higher-tier ammo only when:
Contracts justify it
Bounties justify it
The battle is extremely important
You're intentionally pushing damage
Many players think:
Blue = Cheap = Sustainable
In reality:
Purple → More Damage → Better Loot → More Income
Several experienced players found that dropping from Purple to Blue reduced damage enough that overall sustainability actually became worse.
The objective is NOT the cheapest build.
The objective is the best return on investment.
Commit to Purple if you want a long-term sustainable war build.
At higher levels many players aim for what can best be described as a Perpetual Engine.
The idea is simple:
Full Purple setup
Strong company base
Consistent participation
Continuous loot generation
Break-even or profitable operation
Target:
1.5M - 2M+ damage per day
The build works because:
✅ Purple gear produces enough damage
✅ Damage produces enough loot
✅ Loot helps replace consumed resources
✅ Companies provide steady income
✅ Contracts and bounties fill the gaps
The result is a build that can remain in war mode indefinitely.
Fight today.
Fight tomorrow.
Fight next month.
Without needing to completely rebuild your economy afterward.
Most players underestimate how important loot is.
You earn:
Cases
Red Cases
Equipment
Tanks
Scrap
Resources
Reward Items
Over time these help offset war expenses.
You have two choices:
✅ Consistent income
✅ Predictable value
✅ More excitement
✅ Potentially larger rewards
✅ More variance
Choose whichever you prefer.
Over the long term both approaches tend to balance out.
Every destroyed weapon and piece of gear generates scrap.
Generally:
Scrap value is around 20-25% of the consumed item's value
Scrap can be sold
Scrap can be crafted into new equipment
Scrap is one of the hidden income sources that helps keep war sustainable.
Contracts and battle rewards can completely change the economics of your build.
Always pay attention to:
(BTC paid per 1,000 damage)
A build that appears unprofitable may become completely sustainable when:
✅ Contracts are active
✅ Bounties are available
✅ Reward rates are good
A good contract can turn a break-even build into a profitable one.
More damage generally means:
Better rankings
Better rewards
Better contract opportunities

Large battles:
✅ Distribute more rewards
✅ Create larger loot pools
✅ Improve opportunities for valuable drops
✅ Allow stronger players to compete for better loot consistently
Even eco players can sometimes pick up valuable rewards from high-damage battles.
For established war players these battles are one of the main drivers of sustainability.
As your:
Level increases
Military Rank increases
your sustainability improves naturally.
Higher damage means:
Better battle placement
Better loot
Better rewards
Better contract value
This is one reason sustainable war becomes significantly easier at Level 45+.

Pills provide:
✅ +60% damage for 8 hours
❌ Followed by a debuff for 15.5 hours
This full cycle is referred to as a Pill Cycle.
A common saying among fighters is:
"A day unpilled is a day wasted."
Pilling is one of the biggest damage increases available in the game.
More damage means:
Better battle rankings
More loot
More reward opportunities
Better contract and bounty returns
Sustainable war builds rely heavily on maintaining consistent pill cycles.
Try to:
✅ Pill every day
✅ Pill when you'll be most active
✅ Have full HP and Hunger before pilling
✅ Let most of the debuff happen while you're asleep or offline
As a general rule:
If you're spending gear, ammo, and food, you should be doing so while pilled. Fighting without a pill dramatically reduces your damage, loot, and overall efficiency.
Mostly Purple gear
Blue Body/Pants if necessary
Steak daily
Fish for important fights
Green ammo
5+ Companies
AE6 focus
Target Damage: 500k - 1M+ per day
Full Purple setup
Gold Boots
Gold Gloves
Tanks for major operations
Strong economy
Consistent loot generation
Target Damage: 1.5M - 2M+ per day
Don't ask:
"What's the most damage I can do today?"
Ask:
"Can I still afford to do this every day for the next 60 days?"
If the answer is YES:
You have a sustainable war build.
If the answer is NO:
You are borrowing damage from your future economy.
