MALAYSIA'S FOREIGN POLICY WHITE PAPER (JUNE)

Malaysia continues to pursue an independent, principled and pragmatic foreign policy, founded on the values of peace, humanity, justice, and equality. The overarching thrust of its foreign policy has been to safeguard Malaysia’s sovereignty and national interests as well as to contribute meaningfully towards a just and equitable community of nations through the conduct of effective diplomacy

1.   Principles and Factors of Foreign Policy Formation
Malaysia’s foreign policy is largely influenced and shaped by three key factors, namely its strategic location in Southeast Asia, its attributes as a trading nation as well as its unique demography. While the foreign policy approaches may have differed over the years due to changing domestic and external factors, the basic principles of the policy have continued since independence. Policy-making has been guided by the criteria of credibility together with consistency and coherency, which have served the country’s best interests.

2. Regional Priorities in Southeast Asia
Southeast-Asia remains the top priority of Malaysia’s focus. Through both productive bilateral and multilateral talks with both blocs of The Federation, Anti-Federation and sometimes ICPD, has elevated Malaysia’s engagement at a regional level. We will continue communications with both sides for further regional cooperation and clear off any misunderstandings.

3. Support for Pan-Asianism
At large, Malaysia promotes the idea of Pan-Asianism. It refers to the idea where Asians should very much cooperate and develop friendly relations with each other. This is to discourage any non-Asian influences to shape the affairs of the Asian continent, as we want to believe Asia’s matters are for Asians themselves to deal with. On this idea, Malaysia will also prioritize the Asian continent as a whole and maintain good relations with all in said continent.

4.  Strengthening Diplomatic Relations
In line with the objectives of promoting and protecting Malaysia’s interests abroad, Malaysia established multiple embassies across online nation communities of WarEra. For those nations who hasn’t established a formal line of communication, we highly encourage you to do so.

5. Malaysia's Strategic Autonomy
In response to the increasing complexity in global affairs, Malaysia conduct will continue to be guided by the principles of respect for other nations and maintaining its strategic autonomy. Malaysia’s Strategic Autonomy refers to the idea of complete autonomy for Malaysia in world affairs, which meant she has her major decisions decided by her own, no major power or bloc shall force upon its decisions or world views her.

6. Position on Participation in International Blocs or Organizations
In the topic of Malaysia potentially joining blocs, Malaysia open to consider joining any bloc or organisation as long as it serves its long term strategic and economic interests. We would prefer to maintain our Strategic Autonomy (Point 5) and make our own decisions for the best interests of Malaysia and its partners while being in a bloc as well. Further details can be discussed with its government if anyone is interested in issuing an invite to us.
