Accordion Day
World Accordion Day is celebrated every May 6th to commemorate the invention and patenting of this wind instrument by Cyrill Demian on May 6, 1829, in Vienna. Established in 2009 by the International Confederation of Accordionists (CIA), it seeks to promote its diversity and celebrate its impact on popular music worldwide.
While the accordion was invented in Austria, its greatest global representatives are Colombian and Mexican cultures. In Colombia, My favourite accordion track is 'La Gota Fría' by Carlos Vives.
Personally, I love this song; it has a beautiful rhythm and lyrics with so much meaning that it’s still used in social media trends today. Take a break and listen to this masterpiece.
