The "VolkssturmGewehr 1-5" (People's Storm Rifle) is a semi automatic, gas operated rifle that used a 30 round magazine of 7.92x33mm Kurz rounds, the same magazine the famous STG44 could use.

It was designed by Karl Barnitzke from the Gustoff-Werke armament production company in 1944 within the "Primitiv Waffen Programm" (Primitive Weapons Program) which aimed to produce simple designed weapons quickly in the last stages of the war.

It has been produced from January 1945 till the end of the war, 10 000 units were manufactured.

The weapon was used by the "Volkssturm" (People's Storm), a late-war military unit comprised of males 16-60 not already serving in a military unit.
