NEW CITIZEN'S HANDBOOK

This part of the New Citizen's Handbook (NCH) will cover XP, levels, Skill Points, Skill Resets, and the tools that help you optimize all of the above.
Nothing too exciting yet. We are simply making sure Future You doesn't have to pay for Present You's questionable decisions.

XP is what levels your account.
Most of your XP comes from completing missions. As you progress, you'll encounter starting, daily, weekly and monthly missions, among other progression systems.
The core loop is simple:
1. Complete missions
2. Earn XP
3. Level up
4. Receive more Skill Points.
5. Invest them in certain skills depending on your goal.
For now, just keep the XP coming.

Skill Points are how you begin shaping your profile.
They can be invested into different economic and combat skills, affecting things such as production, energy, company capacity and your ability to fight.
You will eventually have very different options depending on what you want your account to become.
But you're new.
You do not need to decide your lifelong destiny at Level 7.
Early progression generally favors building the economic side of your account before committing heavily to combat, because your economy is what eventually has to pay for all that glorious violence.
We'll cover that properly in NCH: Money & Companies (2/4).

You have two free full Skill Resets available to your account.
After those are gone, changing your build costs Gold, with the cost increasing based on how many Skill Points are involved. There is also a cooldown between resets.
That means your free resets are not tutorial buttons.
Don't burn one because you got bored and wanted to see what 25% Loot Chance feels like (I definitely didn't do this btw...)
Save them until you actually have a reason to rebuild your profile.

This build is by no means effective, so don't copy it, but as you can see, WarEra gives you lots of options.
Fortunately, other players have already done much of the mathematics for you.
Several community tools can load your profile from your username, inspect your current skills and progression, and help you work out what your next move should be.
Some can even tell you when it makes sense to save Skill Points instead of immediately spending them.
You can read more on that in NCH: Tools Addendum found in the index.
Now, you don't have to blindly obey a calculator.
But if your goal is efficient progression, ignoring the tools available to you simply means making decisions with less information.
And WarEra is quite happy to let you make expensive mistakes.
Feel free to share these beginner guides with new citizen's to give them a solid foundation to stand on.
Note: if any information is missing, please drop a comment explaining it. That way confused newborns don't have to search for it on their own.
