October 2026 Elections: Seven Presidents, Seven Congresses, 656 Fewer Voters.

Seven congresses were elected on 6 October. Three of them handed first place to a different party, a fourth saw September's winner cut in half, and 656 fewer people voted than a month ago.

The votes closed at 00:03 UTC on 7 October. The same seven nations cast 2,366 votes in September: that is -27.7%, and only one of them voted more than it did a month ago.

Housekeeping first: the top five has moved again, at the expense of Egypt. A note on the data: party membership figures and populations are live numbers read on 7 October, not snapshots of election day, so a party that gained or bled members this week will look different from how it looked when people voted. The presidencies, in one minute

There was no separate piece on the presidential elections of 1-3 October as i was busy with VP stuff, but you deserved a recap of the presidential election! So here is the short version before the congresses. 1,699 people voted for a president across the same seven nations, against 2,123 in September (-20%).

Four presidencies changed party (Germany, Portugal, the Netherlands, Lithuania), Sweden's held, and Egypt and Italy changed the man and kept the party. In five of the seven nations the person who won in September was not on the ballot at all. Keep that in mind for what follows: the congresses voted two days later and did not always follow the presidents.

🇩🇪 Germany — A party with four seats now has eleven

437 votes, 50 seats, 81 candidates. https://app.warera.io/country/6813b6d446e731854c7ac79c cast 214 fewer votes than in September, the biggest absolute drop of the seven, and the congress that came out of it looks nothing like the last one.

Its seat history reads 13 → 9 → 6 → 7 → 6 → 4 → 11: in one month it won back most of what it had lost since April. The party that gave up first place: https://app.warera.io/party/69c0e61777b409b357509f2f , the largest bloc of September with 13 seats, goes to 10, and from 179 votes to 74: it lost 59% of its vote. Its best candidate is https://app.warera.io/user/69a14b324d2abd93de74dc0a , the man who won the presidency in September, on 10 votes against 38 last month. The party's membership went from 112 on 29 September to 98 today, and the archive of party changes shows him leaving it at 05:41 UTC on 7 October, hours after the votes closed.

The new president stood for congress too and took 4 votes; four was enough for a seat in Germany this month, so he is elected. The independents: four seats on 49 votes. The two best, https://app.warera.io/user/69bad6a58a13b64e43e95680 (19) and https://app.warera.io/user/69d6b9043553eff9bdc6ad42 (15), each outscored the best candidate of AZB, ADAV and Die Grauen. Last month's independent champion, https://app.warera.io/user/697689e28239557c8baec6a6 , took 51 votes with no party at all; this time he ran for W.U.M.S. and took 2, with no seat.

Four parties that held seats in September hold none: the Sozialdemokratische Katzenpartei (2 seats and 34 votes last month, no votes now), the Partei gegen Mobilmachung (1 seat, 25 votes, none now), Starting Mission Partei (55 members, 2 votes) and Doof Inc.

The context: 651 → 437 votes continues a zigzag that has lasted five months - 553, 653, 409, 651, 437 - and 45.3% of active citizens voted. The effective number of parties fell from 6.94 to 6.38, which is still the most fragmented system of the seven by more than a full party.

🇵🇹 Portugal — The president changed parties and topped the poll

230 votes, 33 seats, 59 candidates. https://app.warera.io/country/6813b6d446e731854c7ac7aa lost 148 votes since September and had the second lowest turnout of the group: 38.4% of its active citizens.

CRP, whose single member held a seat in September, is out.

The context: the effective number of parties slips from 3.32 to 3.03, the first fall after three months of rises from 1.32 in June.

🇳🇱 Netherlands — The president's party fell to six seats

269 votes, 30 seats, 47 candidates. For six consecutive months https://app.warera.io/country/6813b6d446e731854c7ac7a0 voted between 314 and 355 times. This is the first time since March that it falls below 300, and 49.2% of active citizens is still the third highest rate of the seven.

The context: the effective number of parties goes from 4.93 to 5.17, a second record in a row: 3.04 → 3.63 → 3.79 → 3.93 → 3.80 → 4.93 → 5.17. Fewer voters, still more parties. And together with Germany it is the only nation where the president's party is not first in congress.

🇱🇹 Lithuania — The most consolidated system of the seven stopped being one

203 votes, 25 seats, 72 candidates. https://app.warera.io/country/6813b6d446e731854c7ac7b8 lost 58 votes from September's record, but 203 is still the second highest turnout it has ever posted, and 45.5% of its active citizens.

The winner, smaller: https://app.warera.io/party/698cfc69b4565ead9fa5adb4 is first again with 9 seats, down from 14, and 82 votes, down from 125. On 3 October its ticket took 176 votes and the presidency, so in congress it kept 47 votes out of every 100 it had won for president. It has 470 members, the second largest membership of the seven after Espada Prite. The context: the effective number of parties jumps from 2.42 to 4.25, the highest of the series and the biggest rise of the seven (+1.83). In June it was 1.47. The country that voted like one big party in the spring now has seven parties with candidates, and the independents.

🇸🇪 Sweden — A record turnout, and a minister who took 14% of the vote

250 votes, 25 seats, 39 candidates. https://app.warera.io/country/6813b6d446e731854c7ac7f2 is the only nation of the seven where more people voted than in September (+34, +15.7%), and it did it at the highest rate of the group: 56.6% of its active citizens. It is also the biggest Swedish congressional turnout on record - the previous best was 238, in May.

🇪🇬 Egypt — Turnout fell by more than half

🇮🇹 Italy — Half a party, and a tie for first

179 votes, 19 seats, 26 candidates. https://app.warera.io/country/6813b6d446e731854c7ac7a2 is the smallest nation here and had the second highest turnout: 55.9% of its active citizens voted, a hair behind Sweden's 56.6%. It cast 62 fewer votes than in September, put the smallest ballot of the seven in front of its voters, and a seat cost 6 votes - one fewer than last month and the most expensive in the group.

The winner, halved: https://app.warera.io/party/698d017eebb98b9142fa280d goes from 10 seats to 5 and from 92 votes to 41, after a climb that began in April: 1 → 6 → 7 → 9 → 9 → 10 → 5. Its membership tells the other half: 119 on 29 September, 104 on 3 October, 76 today, 43 fewer in eight days and most of them after the presidential count. The party won that election with 93 votes and 75.0%; two days later its best candidate in congress has 9. Neither the president nor the party leader stood, and nor did I.

Sweden is the outlier of the month, the way Portugal was in September: one candidate holding 14.0% of a national ballot, well ahead of the next best share (Egypt, 9.9%). The Portuguese top share, 14.3% last month, has dropped to 8.7%. And Germany, the nation with the most candidates (81), has the lowest top share of the seven: 5.7%.
