Official Statement of the Netherlands: France Why Don't You Like Us Anymore?

Yesterday, France declared war on the Netherlands.

The Dutch Government acknowledges this action and wishes to express its profound confusion regarding this decision. We have always regarded France as one of our fiercest allies (during tournament battles), where we have stood side by side or on opposite sides on occasion. As such, this declaration of war came as a complete surprise. No prior consultation, warning, cryptic Discord message, or mysterious emoji preceded this action.

We understand that France may have had its reasons. Unfortunately, we have absolutely no idea what those reasons are. Absolutely no idea. Like 100% no clue.

Declaring war on an ally without any explanation sends a rather mixed message and leaves us wondering whether we accidentally forgot someone's birthday, stole the last croissant, or simply woke up on the wrong side of Europe.

The Dutch Government's position is as follows: we are not seeking escalation. This war does not represent a strategic priority for the Netherlands. Citizens who wish to engage remain free to do so. Nevertheless, we hope France will, at some point, enlighten us as to why we suddenly found ourselves on the receiving end of a declaration of war.

The Netherlands will continue to approach this situation with restraint, a healthy dose of confusion, and the hope that this all somehow makes sense in the morning.
