After another long day watching company production crawl along, filling the employer work bar to meet quota, losing gold to war taxes, and seeing my energy bar stuck near zero, I thought: maybe it's time for a holiday. Just a short break somewhere different.
In real life you'd pick a destination and go. Here you open the world map and try to find any province that doesn't look ready to explode. I daydreamed about classic Mediterranean holidays. Croatia came to mind, with those beautiful coastal provinces with sea views and hills that people love for a relaxing getaway. Italy and Spain followed, famous for their sunny beaches and shores that everyone dreams about in real life.
I spotted a neutral coastal province with no conquest arrows or battle icons flashing. It looked stable enough. I told myself: save today, travel tomorrow, maybe it stays quiet for a day or two. So I scraped together the travel gold: skipped one employer shift (felt guilty right away), sold some extra resources on the player market. Kept refreshing the map, hoping the borders would hold. Next morning the province had changed hands overnight. A pact had pushed through; now it's contested territory with red influence spreading and enemy units moving in. No quiet beach there. I scrolled again, picked another spot. A nice inland province under a smaller nation, seemed far from the main fronts. Refreshed one last time before deciding. Overnight another offensive flipped the whole region. That province was now a different colour, war declarations popping up everywhere.
Paris might be French today and someone else's tomorrow. A southern beach could belong to anyone by morning. Italy's coast might look tempting one evening and be a frontline the next. Nothing stays put long enough to plan around.
I closed the travel window. Didn't even try to move. Put the gold back into resources for the company. The employer bar still needs filling tomorrow. Production queues will back up if I leave. Taxes won't wait.
A holiday in War Era isn't really possible. You can click travel, but the map redraws itself the moment you look away. You save, you hope, you wait, only for the destination to disappear before you get there.
So I gave up. Maybe next month I'll check again. Or maybe minimising the window for ten minutes is as close as it gets to a holiday.
