Babgen Frikjan: Welcome to Radio Yerevan, HasmuchBread. You are our second guest on People around the Globe, and I have to say your story caught my attention immediately. Let's start at the beginning: how did you find your way to WarEra?

HasmuchBread: I came across it on the https://app.warera.io/country/683ddd2c24b5a2e114af1612 WarEra subreddit. Being a https://app.warera.io/country/683ddd2c24b5a2e114af15f7 native, I saw https://app.warera.io/user/68e652c00080f7794610fe58 pushing for more native players there and that was enough to get me interested.

Babgen Frikjan: A game that actively sought out its own locals. I respect that. Now, are you planning to run for congress in South Africa?

HasmuchBread: South Africa is credited with being the original liberators of Namibia, just before I joined and they helped in an attempt to retake the country. For that reason, I feel indebted to them and will certainly support their military and financial goals. I'm happy to manage propaganda and build rapport with potential allies, but I'll be staying out of politics for the time being.

Babgen Frikjan: A man who knows where his strengths lie and where the real debts are. What are your broader goals in WarEra? Are you more of a WAR player or an ECO player?

HasmuchBread: My long-term goal is to retake Namibia and install a stable government and congress. I might be open to acting as Minister of Foreign Affairs somewhere down the line, but only maybe. The meta right now heavily favours WAR, so that's where my focus is, even if my build is far from optimal at the moment.

Babgen Frikjan: I was told you were one of the Namibian locals. How did you experience the takeover and why did you ultimately leave for South Africa?

HasmuchBread: I'm a Namibian citizen in real life, yes. I tried staying in the country after the takeover, but the conquerors insisted on communicating only in German while ignoring the locals entirely. We were so heavily outnumbered that any form of unrest or in-game resistance just seemed like a waste of time. About a week after I left, I noticed that several key accounts used in the takeover and in the voting that enabled it were banned for botting and multi-accounting. That made my decision feel even more vindicated.

Babgen Frikjan: (quietly) Colonisers who couldn't even bother to cheat honestly. What do you make of the current offensive against South Africa?

HasmuchBread: While I feel like I dropped the ball in letting https://app.warera.io/alliance/6a2b13879c8c99640b9c4963 into Namibia in the first place, the action itself has been fun and showed me a completely different playstyle. And honestly, trauma-bonding with the South Africans has been great.

Babgen Frikjan: (laughs) There is a special kind of camaraderie that only comes from shared hardship. Where do you stand on https://app.warera.io/country/6813b6d446e731854c7ac79c, BEER and https://app.warera.io/alliance/6a2966e8f0f195d344d5158c?

HasmuchBread: Every good story needs a villain of seemingly insurmountable odds. I look forward to undermining those alliances and fighting for African sovereignty — once the tides turn again.

Babgen Frikjan: Now let's get a little more personal. Where are you from in real life?

HasmuchBread: I was born in Durban, South Africa, and immigrated to the Namibian coast in 2013.

Babgen Frikjan: A South African who became a Namibian and now fights for Namibian sovereignty inside a browser game. There is a certain poetry to that. What do you do for a living?

HasmuchBread: I'm a small business owner specialising in web development for e-commerce.

Babgen Frikjan: Building things — in real life and in the game. What is your favourite food?

HasmuchBread: Wiener schnitzel and potato salad. A firm favourite.

Babgen Frikjan: A man of culture. (smiles) And your sweet of choice?

HasmuchBread: Liquorice Allsorts and Nik Naks. I know, an unusual combination, but I stand by it.

Babgen Frikjan: No judgement here. Finally, if someone were to visit your part of the world for the first time, where would you send them?

HasmuchBread: One of the most popular destinations in Namibia is

Etosha National Park,

the Big Five,

and an incredible variety of other wildlife. But here on the coast, we have something truly special:

the ghost town of Kolmanskop,

slowly being swallowed by the desert sand. It's actually one of the locations used when filming parts of the Fallout series. Eerie, beautiful and unlike anything else.

Babgen Frikjan: A ghost town in the desert and lions on the plains. Namibia does not do things by halves. HasmuchBread, thank you for joining us. Before we close, do you have a word for the audience?

HasmuchBread: Build alliances. Recruit players. Outthink your enemies. And if your master strategy requires a second login - it probably wasn't a master strategy to begin with.

Babgen Vahan Frikjan: (laughs) That may be the finest piece of political wisdom ever delivered on this station. Safe travels, Hasmuchbread, and may Namibia be free again sooner than either of us expects.
