Perloja. A small Lithuanian town where a great idea was born β that Lithuanians should have the right to decide their own fate.
After World War I, Lithuania was rebuilding itself as an independent state. In 1918, the people of Perloja organized their own local government, later known as the Republic of Perloja.
Led by Jonas ΔesnuleviΔius, the people of Perloja organized their own administration and even formed an armed force to protect the town and its people.
It was not a powerful country with a huge army.
It was a community united by one idea: we will defend our own home.
π±πΉ The Republic of Perloja became a symbol of self-government, courage and Lithuanian determination.
Decades later, Lithuania faced an even darker period. During the Soviet occupation, Lithuanian partisans took to the forests and fought for the restoration of an independent Lithuania.
They had no tanks.
No powerful armies.
No guarantee that they would survive.
They had only the forest, their weapons, their comrades and faith in Lithuania.
π₯ That is the spirit of Perloja.
Not strength through numbers.
Not strength through wealth.
Strength through unity.
Today, the Republic of Perloja may be small, but its name carries a much bigger story β the story of Lithuanians who refused to surrender their freedom.

They defended Perloja.
The partisans defended Lithuania.
Now we build its future.
