A guide for War Era players – a clear, impartial explanation of one of the most important mechanics when a region gets occupied.
One of the most strategic systems in War Era is Resistance. It activates automatically whenever a country occupies a region that isn't theirs (another nation's "Core Region"). It's a player-driven mechanic that allows citizens of the original country and their allies to organise a collective counter-offensive, trying to fill a bar in order to trigger a liberation battle.
To see exactly how it works, let's use the region of Zurich as a concrete example. Zurich is a Core Region of Switzerland, but it is currently occupied by Italy. The large red Resistance bar reads 705/759 (nearly 93%): once it reaches 759/759, the original country will be able to attempt to declare a battle to reclaim the territory.
The bar fills progressively according to fixed rules:
Automatic growth When a region is occupied, resistance grows every hour by between 0.1% and 0.35%. The value depends on the region's development level (in Zurich it is 7.59). The more developed the region, the longer the bar and the more time it takes to complete it.
Decay If the region returns under the control of the original owner country, resistance starts dropping by 0.2% every hour.
Maximum bar length Scales automatically with the region's development level: wealthier regions have bars that are harder to fill completely.
Anyone can speed up the filling of the bar by spending personal resources. Two buttons are available on the screen:
CONTRIBUTE with the heart ❤️ → spend 10 Health to add 1 point to the bar.
CONTRIBUTE with the lightning bolt ⚡ → spend 10 Energy to add 1 point to the bar.
Bonus for citizens of the original country: Anyone who is a citizen of the owner country (Switzerland in this example) adds 2 points instead of 1, at the same cost of 10 Health or 10 Energy.
Requirement: players must be at least level 15.
This is the community aspect of the mechanic: Military Units of the original country often organise Health and Energy "donation drives" to try to fill the bar as quickly as possible.
Once 759/759 is reached (or the maximum for that region's bar), the original country can declare a Resistance Battle(revolt) simply by clicking the revolt button — no motion or law is required, and there is no associated cost.
During a liberation battle (revolt), anyone supporting the attackers (i.e. the country trying to reclaim the region) receives a damage bonus percentage that scales with the region's Resistance level, from a minimum of +1% up to a maximum of +40%. The higher the bar at the time of the battle, the stronger the offensive advantage.
In addition, when a Core Region is under attack, citizens of the defending country (the original owner country) who support the defence receive a +15% damage bonus.
In summary:
RoleDamage bonusAnyone supporting the attackers in a revoltfrom +1% to +40% (scales with Resistance)Citizens of the owner country defending their Core Region+15%Everyone elseno bonus
While a battle is already underway, contributions can no longer be made.
After every revolt (won or lost), contributions are locked for 24 hours.
The bar's fill percentage hijacks (steals) up to 40% of taxes from companies in the region, automatically transferring them to the original country. Technically, the owner country receives 0.5% of tax per Resistance pointin the region: at 100%, it collects 40% of all income tax paid by local companies.
The Resistance value resets at the end of every revolt, whether won or lost.
Fully understanding this system allows for better management of occupations: knowing how much time remains before the bar fills, how to counter enemy contributions, and when to click revolt at the right moment. It is one of the mechanics that makes War Era far deeper than a simple conquest game.
