Overview
The fall of Constantinople feels less like a normal battle and more like the closing chapter of a long story. For over a thousand years, the Byzantine Empire had survived wars, betrayals, and countless enemies. Context
By this time, Constantinople was no longer the giant it once was. Its population had shrunk, its resources were limited, and help from Europe was uncertain. Still, the city had something powerful on its side, its walls. For centuries, these walls had protected it from invasion. Many believed they were simply unbreakable.

Strategy and Tactics
Mehmed knew that if he wanted to win, he had to do something different. He brought massive cannons that shook the ground every time they fired. Day after day, they pounded the walls that once seemed invincible. Then came one of his boldest moves. He had ships dragged across land to get around the city’s defenses, placing his fleet where the defenders never expected it. Suddenly, the city was under pressure from all sides.

Turning Point
As the days passed, exhaustion took over. The defenders were fighting constantly, repairing walls at night and battling again at dawn. Eventually, a breach opened. It was small at first, but it was enough. Ottoman forces poured in. In the chaos, the emperor Constantine XI Palaiologos chose to fight like an ordinary soldier and disappeared in the battle, never to be seen again.

Impact
The fall of Constantinople was not just about one city being captured. It felt like the end of an entire era. A bridge between the ancient world and the modern one had finally collapsed. At the same time, it marked the beginning of something new, as the Ottomans rose to power and Europe was pushed to look beyond its borders in search of new paths and opportunities.
