Citizens of https://app.warera.io/country/683ddd2c24b5a2e114af1612,
Tomorrow is my last day, and because of that I wanted to share my reflections. This has been a tumultuous month. In our first week, we fought to control SRs for steel specialisation. In our second, we lost our cores and tried to take the fight to Germany directly. In our third, we fought to win those cores back. And our fourth and final week opened with an update that fundamentally changes the game.
Threats remain. Botswana’s potential PTO is still a concern, and enemies still surround us. But overall, I believe I leave South Africa in a stronger strategic position than the one I inherited. Our relationships with our allies, both within our alliance and beyond it, are stronger than ever.
That does not excuse the failures of my term, and I take responsibility for them. Our population has shrunk, our damage output is at an all-time low, and fewer players are engaging with us in government.
I know some of you disagreed with decisions made along the way, and that’s fair. When I took office, one of my goals was to move more of our discussions into the open, where everyone could see and take part in them. I wasn’t able to build agreement on that within cabinet, and too much of my reasoning stayed behind closed doors as a result. You deserved more visibility, and it’s a lesson I’d urge whoever comes next to take seriously.
Elections are tomorrow, and this one matters more than most. The recent update has changed the board, and whoever leads next will decide how South Africa meets it.
Don’t vote out of habit, and don’t vote for a name simply because you recognise it.
Read the platforms. Ask the candidates hard questions, and hold them to their answers. If a candidate promises you transparency, ask them where they stood when it was on the table. Choose someone who can fix the problems mentioned, and then show up for them: on the battlefield, on the Discord server, and in the conversations that keep our nation alive.
No president can lead a nation that isn’t there. The social fabric, success and future of South Africa depend on your choice, and on what you do after you make it.
Now, some thanks are in order.
To https://app.warera.io/user/6918b32fcc751d7f455d1f17 for the moral support :Badday: I hope you war your doggiest for long after I've built my PC, so that I can join in on the fun.
To https://app.warera.io/user/68e538c09c4aafa6f1a0bd5c, for organising and leading our Discord server's Spooktober events. He is an absolute pillar of the community, and I can not imagine it without him.
To https://app.warera.io/user/6a53f6aa32c5c80119f5c358, for his outstanding commitment as Minister of Defence after I threw him in at the deep end. He adapted superbly, and I look forward to seeing where he goes next.
To https://app.warera.io/user/697f856b15e8474880f62480 and https://app.warera.io/user/6a4ceaa74501d0b090a1afa1, for their presence, dedication, and constant bouncing between servers, channels, and DMs to get things done™.
To https://app.warera.io/user/69f72b433d641e9efdbea2cf, for managing our treasury so well over the past three months, for finding money when there should have been none, and for his incredible dedication to our nation. And also to https://app.warera.io/user/69f0d88d81a255ea6e9cbc65, for taking over the role with gusto and keeping the wheels turning this final week.
To my Vice-President, https://app.warera.io/user/69ee3b2f915e8c144eb6662d, for making the right calls when I wasn’t around, for holding others off until I was, and for always giving me his honest opinion, especially when it differed from mine.
And to all of you, for your opinions, your questions, and your private messages of support. You made it all worth it.
I am going to be stepping back from government again, but this time I’m not going anywhere. You’ll still find me hanging out in-game, and on our Discord server.
I had the honour of leading our nation this month, and I am ever grateful.
