Stamina or Oil? The Map's Movement Cost Explained

migSeptember 15, 2026guide

The new travel system runs on two currencies, stamina and oil, but they don't blend the way you might expect.

How it works

Every region crossed costs 10 stamina. A full 100-point bar covers exactly 10 regions. Beyond that line, the system doesn't partially drain your stamina and top up the rest with oil. If the bar can't cover the entire trip, the whole trip is billed in oil instead, at 2 oil per region, and your stamina bar isn't touched at all.

That threshold produces a strange result at the edges:

  • 1 region: 10 stamina, or 2 oil

  • 10 regions (a full bar): 100 stamina, or 20 oil

  • 11 regions: 22 oil -even though you technically have enough stamina for 10 of those 11 regions

The system doesn't ask "how much stamina do you have," it asks "does your stamina cover the whole trip." One region over the line, and the entire cost flips to oil.

The practical effect

If you actually want to spend your stamina bar, you have to plan around this cliff. Traveling exactly 10 regions burns your full bar as intended. Try to go one region further, though, and the game skips stamina entirely and charges you in oil.

To use up a full bar and cover that extra region, you'd need to split the trip: travel the 10-region stretch on stamina first, then make a separate 1-region hop for 2 oil.

In short, the mechanic isn't "prioritizing" oil as a preference; it's an all-or-nothing rule per trip. But the practical upshot for players is the same either way: any single trip that outruns your stamina bar, even by one region, reroutes the entire cost to oil rather than blending the two currencies.
