Street Food of Malaysia, the Humble Ramly Burger - Malacca Strait Times

Who doesn't love a good burger? They are convenient, tasty and satisfy all the cravings. In Malaysia, one type of burger stands above all - the Ramly Burger.

It's a burger bun with chicken or beef patty, packed with cabbage and cucumber, then drenched with a combination of mayo, chili and black pepper sauce. It's sloppy and obesity-inducing, but it is the default go to supper as most burger stalls are open till midnight.

The Ramly group, which provided Ramly meat patties started as an effort to supply halal western fast-food chains in Malaysia. Nowadays it has evolved into its own unique thing, beloved and enjoyed by all Malaysians alike.

Several iteration of the burger exists, but some of them include:

1. Burger Biasa (The default option) ~ RM 4.5 (1.15 USD)

2. Burger Special Cheese (Meat patty wrapped in omelette with American Cheese) ~ RM6.5 (1.65 USD)

3. Burger Ayam Crispy (Breaded deep fried chicken) ~ RM7 (1.8 USD)

There are more niche versions too, I had one with apple slices inside the burger (In Kedah) and many more versions that people dreamed up from God-knows-where. Overall, a very satisfying food. My only complaint is that the burger DOES NOT stay in shape after a few bites, very hard to handle.

A video for those who are interested to see it in action, it's fun to look at them making it.

Malaysia Boleh!!!

Been wanting to write this for a while now, Ramly burgers are very ubiquitous here and you will see a stall every few blocks. Makes people wonder how many burgers people eat everyday. War situation video coming tomorrow! (Probably)
