I am sure that there are games like War Era out there, but personally, I will never go looking for them. I am invested in War Era, and this is the game in this genre that I will choose to play until I really am over it or the game dies out. More than hopeful, I am quite confident and positive that the game will survive and even thrive.
I have been here long enough to see the player base grow, and that excites me because what makes this game so absolutely exhilarating are the people. Each country, which functions as a team, is like a chapter in this book. It is a flavor that you might like and enjoy, or you might outright think it’s bland or just not for you, and that is okay.
I am a proud South African. Deep in my heart, outside of this game, I believe that South Africans are a really special and unique nation. I do not want to get political because, contrary to what this game is based around, I am politically neutral. I do not vote, I never will vote, and I honestly try to abstain from any real-life political conversation or even forming an opinion. However, what I can say about South Africa is that I honestly believe that if the English never conquered us in the late 1800s, we would have been a superpower today.
That being said, I look at South Africa in War Era and I still feel proud. South Africa has a kick-ass team, and they are like an angry pitbull that is protective over absolutely everything, and I like that. It is our nature.
What has this got to do with the beauty of War Era, though? Well, it has everything to do with it. This game uniquely caters to every type of player. There is space for a team like South Africa; they are having fun, and they feel that they are accomplishing things. The true beauty of this game is that "victory", or what you may feel as a sense of achievement, is relative to you. South Africa may hold half of Africa and feel like they are accomplishing something amazing, which they are, but if you look at their treasury, it's running on fumes and living hand-to-mouth. This is not me being critical; it is just different.
I am currently in Iceland, and here things are completely different. Here, we get a kick out of our bank balance. It changes what we talk about, we quite literally talk and joke about fishing all the time, infact, we are quite passionate about fishing, some would call it, living the dream, but it changes what we focus on, and it changes the game completely. That is the beauty of this game.
I have had the privilege of being in a few countries now. When I was in Russia, clockwork met chaos. Every single day at the exact same hour, the alarms would sound and we would dig in our heels to resist. That was the game there, and again, I am not criticizing it. While I was there, I did not even suggest otherwise. I tried to understand the history, but the country had a strong resolve to resist every day. It was a spirit of everyone showing and proving that "we as a nation" will never give up and will keep coming at you day after day. To be honest, I didn't even want to try to change that; in its own way, it was enjoyable.
So, we are in a game that caters to everyone and makes each person feel part of something together, but as an individual, you also have a voice. You can write an article and share it with people, they will read it, and you have the power to influence. There are so many countries, cultures, play styles, and different ways to feel you are winning the game. It seems pretty sweet, so what is the catch?
The irony is that the community gets along well, too. Every now and then, a joke is made and taken personally, or you might dislike a president for following his own ambition or disrespecting you by attacking you (just playing the game), but generally, we all get along fine.
The catch to all of this is that we have game developers who need to accommodate thousands of people with hundreds of play styles, and every time there is an update, the community gets upset. This is the core problem of the game. If you want to accommodate a country like Iceland, who are quite peaceable and don't want any real trouble, preferring to just enjoy the game's economics, you're bound to ignite a powder keg among the hardcore purists who point to the fact that the game is called War Era and demand blood and steel. If you are a country that has had the advantage of a certain resource, but an update makes a new resource more valuable, that will upset you. The list goes on.
The fact of the matter is this: if there is an update you do not like, the simple truth is that this update is simply not for you, it is not your turn. But hang on, there are a lot of play styles; your update is coming.
I have not written an article for some time, and let's be honest, I'm generally not the most well-liked guy around here. But even with that being a fact, I have no plans on leaving anytime soon. The game is cool, and throughout the day, I find myself excited to see what replies I get from people when I send them a message. Personally, I try to roleplay as much as the community allows me, and this is why I like the game. I like the humans, and I like seeing all the different personalities interact.
It is my hope that the game will continue to grow and that the community will continue to thrive and be as kick-ass as we are now.
