As the war for Berlin draws to its dramatic close, reports from Denmark have taken an unexpected turn. Among the displaced souls fleeing the ruins of the former German capital, one refugee was discovered not at the front, nor in a bunker, but hard at work at the Carlsberg bottling plant.
Witnesses say the man, still covered in dust from the long road north, was found carefully inspecting bottles and loudly praising what he called “probably the best beer in the world.” His dedication to quality control has reportedly impressed local supervisors, though several workers noted that his emotional state deteriorated whenever the subject of sausages was mentioned.
“My collection,” he was heard muttering, staring into the middle distance. “The finest dried sausages in all of Berlin… gone. Buried beneath rubble and poor strategic planning.”
While the fall of the last German province marks the end of an era, historians may one day remember that even in defeat, one man found purpose among green bottles, Danish beer, and the tragic memory of lost cured meats.
Carlsberg officials declined to comment, but production is said to be up 4%.
