The First Verse: The Parable of the Two Altars
Verily, a priest came to a mercenary in the field and said, “Brother, do you not fear for your soul? You kill for coin.”
The mercenary wiped his blade and replied, “When you pray for rain, do you not also pay the farmer? When your church needs a wall, do you not pay the mason? I am the answer to a different prayer. You tend the spirit. I tend to the threat. We both serve the covenant—yours is sung, mine is sealed in ink and iron.”
