The dream of Rome

"There was once a dream that was Rome. You could only whisper it. Anything more than a whisper and it would vanish... it was so fragile. And I fear that it will not survive the winter."

The dream of the Eternal City, just and valiant, was introduced in the old movie, but this is something deeper, something that calls to us, men and women alike. Something deeply understandable to anyone who lives in the real world.

A civilization that covered all oceans. Freedom of speech. Religious freedom. Sexual freedom. Cultural freedom. That was Rome.

There was no "national" Roman identity. Only citizenship. Only the law. The law gave people of different ancestries the opportunity to become one.

You could worship any gods, with only one requirement: respect the opinions of others.

You could be an African general, a Greek philosopher, or the reverse. This world is too big not to have a place for all of us.

This is the dream of the ancients. This is the dream of Rome.
