Algerian War — November 1st Declaration (1954)
To the Algerian People
To all militants of the national cause:
After decades of struggle, the nationalist movement has reached its final stage of realization.
The purpose of this revolutionary declaration is to clarify the reasons that compelled us to act by revealing our program, the meaning of our action, and the legitimacy of our goals.
We believe above all that the restoration of the sovereign, democratic, and social Algerian state within the framework of Islamic principles is essential.
Our objectives are:
National independence through:
The restoration of the sovereign Algerian state, democratic and social, within the framework of Islamic principles.
Respect for all fundamental freedoms without distinction of race or religion.
Internal objectives:
The purification of the political atmosphere by uniting all Algerian patriotic forces.
The elimination of all remnants of corruption and reformism that have hindered the national struggle.
External objectives:
The internationalization of the Algerian problem.
The achievement of North African unity within its natural Arab-Islamic framework.
Ensuring support from all nations sympathetic to our revolutionary action.
To achieve these objectives, the National Liberation Front calls upon all Algerians, regardless of their social status or political affiliation, to join the national struggle.
We offer France an honorable basis for negotiation if it recognizes the Algerian people’s right to self-determination.
Long live Algeria!
