The Trials and Tribulations of a Low Level Player (The Dramatic Version)

This is the story of a low level player trying to make it in this brutal world of war and chaos.

I was ready for war. No one had ever been more ready than I was. I entered this world a natural born killer. All the other players would fear me and run in terror as I approached (probably).

At level 5, I was ready. I struck hard at the enemy, but somehow my dreams of becoming the greatest soldier in the known universe didn't actually materialize. I figured the game was bugged. It is a beta, after all. The greatest soldier couldn't possibly be this useless, could he?

Due to this obvious bug in the game, I waited for it to be fixed.  Besides who trains for stroopwafel warfare? I’ll admit I was caught slightly off guard. During the wait, I trained hard, geared up, and became 100% certain that I was finally ready. So at level 10, it was once again time to prove myself.

This time would be different. I had gained five entire levels, upgraded my equipment, and watched at least three YouTube videos on combat tactics. Statistically speaking, I was now unstoppable. This time I would dispatch enemy soldiers like DiCaprio does women who turn 25.

Obviously, the bug is still in the game. Very unfortunate. The bug appeared to be more serious than I had initially thought. Nothing to do but wait for the developers to fix it. Would a bottle of cognac speed up the process maybe? Because I'm certain this can't be how the game is supposed to work.

In hindsight also bringing a knife to a gunfight might have been a tactical error. Albeit a minor one

Very well. Once again I waited and trained until I finally hit level 15. Now it was my time to shine. Better armored and stronger than ever, I set out once again. This time success was certain. Nothing could stop me, except apparently the enemy, but now I was going to wreak havoc among my enemies like Rebel Wilson at a buffet.

Charging into battle, I expected great success. However...

Maybe it's not a bug after all? Maybe I'm just terrible? Nah that can't be it.

On a more serious sidenote, is the gap between new players and the veterans an issue or not? It will only continue to increase as time goes on. In six months time what level do you have to be to feel your able to contribute something to the gameplay? How many months of do you have to play in order to feel usefull? How do you retain new players if they are facing months of doing nothing before they actually get to the fun parts.
