Today I will share with you guys 5 things that happened on this day, 7th april, in the history of the world.

  1. 1994: The Rwandan Genocide Begins – Following the assassination of the Rwandan and Burundian presidents, a 100-day period of horrific violence began. It remains one of the most tragic failures of international intervention in modern history.

  1. 1945: Sinking of the Yamato – During the Battle of Okinawa, the world’s largest battleship, the Japanese Yamato, was sunk by U.S. carrier-borne aircraft. It marked the definitive end of the era of the "big gun" battleship.

  2. 1862: Battle of Shiloh Ends – One of the bloodiest battles of the American Civil War concluded today with a Union victory under General Ulysses S. Grant. The sheer scale of casualties (over 23,000) shocked both the North and the South.

  3. 1927: First Long-Distance TV Transmission – In a "sci-fi come to life" moment, the first long-distance television broadcast was sent from Washington, D.C., to New York City. The audience saw a flickering image of then-Commerce Secretary Herbert Hoover.

  4. 1933: The End of Beer Prohibition – In the U.S., the Cullen-Harrison Act went into effect today, legalizing the sale of low-alcohol beer and wine. This is why today is celebrated as National Beer Day.
