Today I will share with you guys 5 things that happened on this day, 13th June, in the history of the world

  1. 1178: The Lunar Explosion Eyewitness – A group of five monks in Canterbury, England, reported seeing the upper horn of the moon "split in two" tonight. They described a massive flash of fire, hot coals, and sparks spewing out from the lunar surface, a bizarre event that modern astronomers believe was the actual impact that created the 14-mile(22km) wide Giordano Bruno crater.

  2. 1928: The Lost Arctic Explorer – Famed Norwegian polar explorer Roald Amundsen, the first man to reach the South Pole, vanished without a trace today. He had boarded a French Latham flying boat on a daring rescue mission to find the crew of a crashed Italian airship in the Arctic, but the plane crashed into the sea, and his body was never recovered.

  3. 1812: The War of 1812 Begins – U.S. President James Madison officially signed a declaration of war against Great Britain today. This marked the very first time the United States declared war on another nation, triggered by intense naval conflicts, British impressment of American sailors, and trade restrictions.

  4. 1815: The Final Defeat at Waterloo – French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte suffered his ultimate military collapse in Belgium today. Battling a coalition of British, German, and Dutch forces under the Duke of Wellington, Napoleon's tactical blunders led to a total route, permanently ending his reign and giving rise to the famous idiom "meeting your Waterloo."

  5. 1983: The First American Woman in Space – Physicist and astronaut Dr. Sally Ride made history today by blasting off aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger for the STS-7 mission. Serving as a mission specialist, she successfully operated the shuttle's mechanical robotic arm to deploy and retrieve a satellite in orbit.
