Spain are the new world champions after defeating Argentina 1–0 in a dramatic final that needed extra time to find a winner. Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in the 106th minute, while Argentina finished the match with ten players.

Spain controlled the ball for so long that Argentina’s players probably had to introduce themselves to it whenever they finally gained possession. Argentina defended bravely, blocked everything they could and hoped for one more moment of magic.

Unfortunately for them, the magic arrived at the other end.

Torres found some space, fired the ball into the net and instantly became Spain’s national hero. Spanish fans celebrated, while Argentine supporters stared silently at their televisions and wondered why football enjoys causing emotional damage.

Spain lifted the trophy, Argentina left with broken hearts, and millions of fans promised never to watch such a stressful match again.

Of course, they will all be watching the next World Cup.
