When a Game Stops Being a Game

Hello, WarEra community.

I would like to ask everyone to read this article until the very end.

First, I want to say that I understand in-game trolling, poking, and trash talk are to be expected. My friends from Croatia have had their fair share of trolls, provocations, and dog whistles, and I have been assured those issues are being handled internally.

This article is not about generalizing any nationality or group of people.

So why am I writing this?

Because 3 days ago, the "fourth wall" was broken.

Let me introduce the people involved.

is an new player, who joined WarEra recently. She even took it upon herself to promote the game on Reddit.

Like every community, we have places where we hang out. One of those places is MARE's Party Discord, where around 10–15 regular players from different servers simply chat.

Yesterday, had a very unpleasant experience.

A person joined the Discord using a burner account. It was clearly not their first time doing something like this. They began insulting her, brought her child into the conversation in an extremely inappropriate way by asking whether her child records her having intercourse, and then crossed an even more serious line by claiming that they know where she lives.

I want to pause the story here for a moment.

I do not know whether this person actually knows where she lives, and honestly, I do not care. In my opinion, simply making such a statement crosses a line that should never be crossed.

Surprisingly, they started defending https://app.warera.io/user/6a3d843271c4971968b8bbb2 saying that real life should never be mixed with the game.

I will admit that people started talking to them more positively.

Then one member had an idea.

He checked the Discord server audit logs.

The logs showed that DEADLYPIRATE created an invite link. Within minutes of that invite being created, exactly two people joined the server: https://app.warera.io/user/69cba24d713d6809de76e7c2 and https://app.warera.io/user/69d9a84c429b60c9de07abd8 . As shown in the screenshots, they both joined using DEADLYPIRATE's invite.

Everyone is free to draw their own conclusions.

In my opinion, this kind of behavior is predatory and should not be tolerated. I do not care whether the person is Kyrgyz, Croatian, or from anywhere else in the world. Threatening a single mother or bringing real-life intimidation into a game is completely unacceptable, and I believe the community deserves to know the kind of people they may be interacting with.

So, who is DEADLYPIRATE?

We searched through our own channels and checked almost every server we had access to, but we could not find that account anywhere else. It appears to have been created solely for this purpose.

We do have our suspicions about who might be behind it, but we will keep those suspicions to ourselves unless there is actual proof.

Please be careful about who you interact with online. Games should remain games, and real-life threats or intimidation should never become part of the experience.
